This photograph was taken for an article about the Norman Foundation.
The Norman Foundation was founded by the Jewish philanthropist from Chicago, Eduard Norman in 1939, and was designed to help Jewish refugees from Germany settle in Palestine, as well as to assist the Philharmonic Orchestra established in 1936 in Tel Aviv.
After the establishment of the State of Israel, the Foundation also began to assist the Habima Theater and the Jerusalem Academy of Music. Her name was changed to the America-Israel Cultural Foundation. Samuel Rubin, the fund's president at the time, worked to expand the foundation's mission to a wider range of artistic activities, primarily to assist artists in their early stages.
