This photo was taken in the new Israeli city of Eilat, formerly known as Umm Al-Rashrash, just a few months after it was taken from the Jordanians as part of Operation Uvda.
In its first few years, the area was quite abandoned, but a concerted effort by the Israeli Government to populate Eilat began in 1955 with the resettlement of Jewish immigrants, and today it is a very popular vacation destination . Eilat is part of the Southern Negev and usually has the hottest climate in the entire country.
This photo shows a typical Eilat moment: freshening up from the heat with some cool water.
